About Us

This website is a guide for those of you who are lost: for the thinkers amongst you who are frustrated by a lack of progress in creating a just society and for the practical amongst you who are at a loss as to what you should actually be doing. The nature of our questions eliminates the possibility of any pre-defined destination, but we hope that you can find the direction you lack. This, then, is the heart of The Night Shift: movement with guidance, force with direction, ideas with action.

If you would like to contribute to The Night Shift then we would love to post your blogs or videos. FIRST join and THEN send us your e-mail address here: . That way we can add you as a contributor.

Spread the word.

*** One Week In *** a note from Terry:

The blog is beginning to germinate, which is excellent.  On behalf of new and old Night Shifters alike, I’d like to say that we welcome varied responses to the issues we consider to be worth attention, issues which are themselves open.

If you never even knew there once existed a guy called Derrida, or Deleuze, but can bake a healthy meal – let us know.

If you can’t program a blog, but understand the details of a world conflict or debate more profoundly than we do – let us know.

Someone commented that rigidity is needed to help the blog live.  I would like to see the opposite: the blog thriving from multiple points of interest and energies.

Currently, the founders have a hold on the number of blogs written and comments made – but I for one hope to see us take a little step back as more and more people join.

  1. Hi there,

I don’t have a wordpress account (and am too busy at the moment to start one), so I just wanted to drop this URL for Joe Morgan in response to his March post about the lack of progressive/radical avenues for engineers:

I’m not an engineer myself, so I wouldn’t know if Engineers Without Borders is an obvious referral, but the final paragraph of Mr. Morgan’s post seems to indicate that either he is unaware of the organization’s existence or he finds it ineffective (I hope it’s not the latter, because I’ve only read good things).

  2. Ooops, I meant to post that comment in direct response to “Engineers of Socialism” (, which I have. Did not intend to clutter your “About Us” page.
